AREA-I (NORTH)
The Northern Region exercises a geographical jurisdiction over all the major north Indian states including, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and parts of Madhya Pradesh. The area is rich in agriculture and industrial development, and provides a natural concentration of both demand and supply for both international trade as well as domestic traffic.
The region enjoys a natural cost and transit advantage for rail movement due to the long lead to the gateway ports and major consumption centers, and as much as 40% of CONCOR’s throughput and revenues are contributed by this region.
CONCOR has 14 terminals in the region, located at Delhi (Tughlakabad),Dhandari Kalan(Ludhiana), Moradabad, Kanakpura(Jaipur), Bhagat ki Kothi(Jodhpur), Domestic Terminal(Okhla, New Delhi), Dhappar, Phillaur, Rewari, Sonipat, Kharia, Gotan, Panipat, and Ballabhgarh. The combined traffic from these terminals make Northern Region the largest Region for CONCOR, both in terms of traffic handled, as well as in terms of the terminal network it controls.
The main international services from the region run in the form of high speed freight trains linking the major export and import centers of the region with the Gateway container terminals of Mumbai area located at JNPT, NSICT and MBPT.
Long distance CONTRACK services between Delhi-Chennai, Delhi-Bangalore Delhi-Kolkata, and Delhi-Mumbai comprise the main domestic traffic streams in the region, with the DCT at Okhla also serving as the company’s first hub-terminal.
The ICD at Tughlakabad is the flagship terminal of the company. Commissioned in 1993, this facility has a capacity to handle almost 300,000 TEUs per annum and is equipped with modern handling equipment and facilities such as gantry cranes, reach stackers, concrete block paving etc.
The potential for growth in this region is significant, and forms the basis for massive expansion plans in terms of new terminals and services.
